For me, the book left a lot to be desired. Whether from pacing issues, inconsistencies with plausibility, and the plot / sub-plots that didn’t quite feel cohesive, I wasn’t able to enjoy the story as much as I thought would from the premise. I feel as though the story had a lot of very good plot / sub-plot points and it may have made for a better duology, or even a trilogy of books about Brio’s journey through the grief, confusion, and acceptance that he found along the way. Even by the end, there were so many questions that I feel could’ve been nicely wrapped up in that type of break down. I will state that the last chapter was a good pay-off with all the emotions and everything felt as though it had been poured into it. With all that said, I am sure there are plenty of people who would love this story and be excited to read about Brio wading through the waters of what he was raised to believe and where he ends up at the end.
